Calvin “Chip” Jackson was elected to Richland County Council, District 9 in
November 2016 and begin serving his first four-year term January, 2017. He
retired as the Chief Operating Officer for Administration at the Bible Way
Church of Atlas Road December 31, 2016, however he continues to serve as
Administrative Consultant to the progressive ministry of more than 14,000
members. Mr. Jackson concluded his second term on the Richland School
District Two Board of Trustees in Columbia, South Carolina in November, 2016.
He serves on the Senior Advisory Board for the College of Education at
Clemson University. He served as the Chair for the External Advisory Board,
for the College of Health, Education and Human Development at Clemson
University from 2004-2016.
Mr. Jackson served as a Deputy Superintendent at the South Carolina
Department of Education from 1999 until 2005. Prior to working at the
Department, he was Director of the downtown Palmer Campus of Trident
Technical College (TTC). Before his career at TTC, he was the College
Registrar at the College of Charleston. His career in higher education began
at The University of South Carolina as an Admissions Officer for the University.
Mr. Jackson has co-authored two books. He served as a member of the
National Advisory Committee to develop the new South Carolina student
assessment (PASS). Mr. Jackson is the 2009 Recipient of the Governor and
Mrs. Richard W. Riley Award for Excellence in Dropout Prevention.
Mr. Jackson earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University
of South Carolina. He earned a Master’s Degree in Public
Administration/Public Policy from the University of Charleston.
He is married to Patricia, a teacher at Ridge View High School in Columbia, South Carolina. They have two adult children who graduated from Clemson University.
